A 2nd privacy breach Class Action was launched today, August 20, 2012, in St. John's, NL when Tammy Taylor issued a Statement of Claim against the Eastern Regional Health Authority for breach of personal health information. The Class Action was filed in the Registry of the Supreme Court Trial Division in the capital city and was served on the Eastern  Regional Health Authority.

On Friday, August 17, 2012, Ms. Barbara Hynes of Corner Brook, a victim of the privacy breach admitted at the Western Regional Health Authority, formally issued a class action statement of claim against the health authority, paving the way for other victims to follow.

In 2012, all four of Newfoundland and Labrador's Regional Health Authorities - Eastern, Western, Central and Labrador/Grenfell -  admitted privacy breaches in which the confidential medical files of patients were  improperly accessed by health authority employees.

If you have received notification from any one of the province's four health authorities that your private medical records were breached, you may be eligible for participation in a class action lawsuit.
